Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan and Eskom board chairperson Jabu Mabuza are set to update the nation on the load-shedding crisis on Tuesday.

The country has experienced Stage 4 load-shedding for five days in a row as power utility Eskom continues to battle a shortage of capacity.

Stage 4 electricity cuts will commence from 9am on Tuesday until 11pm.

South Africans have expressed outrage over the outages and consumers are being urged to switch off all non-essential appliances in order to help lower demand.

The power utility insists there is no real need to worry, as 80-percent of the country's power demand is still being met.

The spokesperson for the Minister of Public Enterprises Adrian Lackay says too many skilled employees have left the power utility.

“A lot of good people left Eskom, the institution became the subject of state capture and corruption,” Lackay said.

“There is a technical review panel that reports to the board and the minister.”

“When you don't have the right capabilities there when the best people have left, as it did with the case of Eskom you have optimal performance.”
