Political parties still not compelled to disclose funders─── 10:16 Tue, 02 Apr 2019
Political parties are still not compelled to disclose their funders.
This is because the Political Party Funding Act, which was meant to start operating on Monday, has not yet been put into effect.
IEC Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mambolo confirmed that the law has been put on hold for now.
"The Commission had invited public submissions, and it has transpired that we’ve received over five thousand submissions.
"The commission will consider those at its meeting today (Monday) and it’ll then take the country into its confidence as to what are the next steps relating to the act", said Mamabolo.
In January President Cyril Ramaphosa signed the Party Funding Bill into law.
