The near three-month search for a 7-year-old schoolgirl from Rustenburg has come to a tragic end as it has been discovered that the young schoolgirl’s charred remains had already been discovered in August.

North West police spokesperson, Adele Myburgh, says the charred body of the primary schoolgirl, Kgothatso Molefe, was discovered by a passer-by on August 2, nine days after she was last seen in Tlhabane outside Rustenburg. The body was taken for forensic testing to determine if it indeed is her, the result thereof coming out recently.

OFM News reported previously Molefe was last seen in Mokgethi Street in Tlhabane, getting into a car with two men after one of the men allegedly lured her with some chocolate.

Molefe’s disappearance put scholar safety in the province under the spotlight with the South African National Civic Organisation (Sanco) in the province raising questions over whether sufficient resources have been used to locate the grade two pupil’s whereabouts since her disappearance. Sanco Provincial Chairperson, Paul Sebegoe called on the provincial education department to beef up the school safety programme and involve the community as a part of their crime prevention strategy.

Myburgh says police are investigating a case of murder.
