South African Police Service (SAPS) officers in Phoenix in Durban continue to make inroads into drug dealing in their policing precinct, according to KwaZulu-Natal police.
On Thursday, SAPS officers conducted an intelligence-led operation in Everham Road in Phoenix, Brigadier Jay Naicker said in a statement.
Police officers approached a suspect who was sitting in a parked vehicle. A search was conducted and police seized 15 heroin capsules, as well as 900 grammes of heroin powder which were found in his possession.
The street value of the drugs was estimated to be about R90,000. The 27-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs and was due to appear in the Verulam Magistrates' Court, Naicker said.
“This is once again a major breakthrough in our war on drugs and police officers at Phoenix should be commended for apprehending the suspect in the process. We appeal to communities to work with police and other government departments as well as NGO’s to deal with the scourge of our youth who are trapped in this vicious cycle of drug addiction,” KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lt-Gen Khombinkosi Jula said in the statement.
