Water safety encouraged during festive season─── 06:42 Tue, 19 Nov 2019
The Department of Water and Sanitation has warned residents to be cautious of water eco-systems during the festive season.
Spokesperson of the department, Sputnik Ratau, says residents should not take chances by letting children go near swimming pools without adult supervision, walk or play on low lying bridges or localised flooding areas. Drowning often occurs during December as people are in a celebratory and festive mood.
“Let us make sure we have clean intentions around water use, so that even if we do conduct rituals or fun activities, or are just sitting around in areas that have water; we make sure that we are always careful and respect this necessary commodity.”
People, including baby sitters, childminders and parents are advised to learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as it can prevent loss of life during emergencies. A list of emergency numbers should also be kept at a visible area.
