Food delivery services won’t operate during lockdown, says minister | News Article

Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane says e-hailing food delivery services, including Uber Eats and Mr Delivery, will not be allowed to operate during the upcoming 21-day lockdown.

The national lockdown, which starts at midnight on Thursday, is meant to curb the spread of coronavirus.

A total 554 South Africans have tested positive for the deadly virus.

In a statement on Tuesday, Kubayi-Ngubane said all restaurants, cafes, bars and coffee shops will be required to comply with the lockdown and close their doors as part of the measures to combat the spread of the virus.

Only essential service providers will be permitted to operate during the lockdown period.

“Such service providers have not been included on the list of what has been deemed essential services during the lockdown, will not be permitted to operate and will need to be closed for the duration of the lockdown,” the minister said.
