Extension granted for SAA business rescue plan─── 06:24 Fri, 27 Mar 2020
The business rescue practitioners (BRPs) for South African Airways (SAA) have been granted another extension for the publication of their business rescue plan for the embattled national carrier.
In a statement issued on Thursday, BRPs Siviwe Dongwana and Les Matuson said they had received approval from creditors to extend publication of the plan to May 29, 2020.
This is the second extension the BRPs have been granted.
"In terms of Section 150 (5) of the Companies Act, lenders and creditors were requested to agree on an extension by the BRPs on 20 March 2020," said the statement.
The first extension was to March 31, from February 28.
SAA went into voluntary business rescue in December. A number of measures are under discussion to turn around the fortunes of the carrier, including large scale retrenchments, but these have not been warmly received by unions. Government has also frowned at suggestions that routes should be cut to save costs.
In late January, the BRPs managed to secure R3.5bn in funding from the Development Bank of South Africa.
