#CoronavirusSA: 'Cost of Cuban doctors justified'─── 08:44 Thu, 11 Jun 2020
The deployment of Cuban doctors will cost South Africa around R239 million.
The specialists (187) have been deployed in various provinces to help fight COVID-19.
Chairperson of the health portfolio committee, Sibongiseni Dhlomo, says the amount is justified.
Dhlomo says the main priority is to save lives. "The costs should not be compared to the saving of lives," Dhlomo said.
"These are specialists who we don't have in the country, they probably are scarce or in the private sector."
South Africa currently has over 50,000 COVID-19 cases with 1,210 deaths.
