Two killed in OR Tambo Airport robbery | News Article

Two alleged armed robbers have been shot dead and seven others were wounded in a shooting incident during an alleged robbery at the cargo area outside of the OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg.

The incident occurred yesterday.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene shortly before 2pm to find several local authorities already in attendance, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement.

"On closer inspection, medics found several men, believed to be suspects, lying inside and outside the premises. Paramedics quickly assessed the patients and found that two men had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead. Seven other men were assessed and found to have sustained gunshot wounds, leaving them in moderate to serious conditions," he said.

The wounded people were treated for their wounds and transported under the supervision of local authorities to a nearby hospital. The exact details surrounding the incident were not yet known to paramedics, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations, Meiring said.

According to media reports, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed the alleged armed robbery and that two suspects died in a shoot-out with police. An unknown number of suspects had allegedly robbed the cargo warehouse at the airport and staff members on the premises had been tied up by the robbers, according to the reports.
