PP finds schools, hospitals in poor condition─── 12:51 Sat, 05 Sep 2020
Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane and her deputy Kholeka Gcaleka have been visiting a number of schools and hospitals across the country.
This in order to check on the condition of facilities and to identify issues highlighted due to COVID-19.
Their tour isn't over yet, but they've already described as frightening what they've witnessed so far.
“Challenges that we’ve observed that there is a huge leadership, management gap. And there is also a challenge with financial controls both in the education and health system," said Gcaleka.
"The highlights in the health system is that the pandemic has honestly magnified systemic challenges. Also facilities challenges. There is no space to social distance in hospitals.”
