Health Minister Zweli Mkhize launched the system on Wednesday morning ahead of the start of the country’s Covid-19 vaccination drive.

The department’s acting COO Milani Wolmarans says the platform is capable of registering thousands of people at any given time. “It will not crash after a million people have been registered on the self-registration portal.

“The system has been built on a platform that is already managing 59 million records. It is built on a very solid platform in terms of the enterprise architecture.”

The first phase of the vaccination rollout is expected to commence in less than two weeks, where more than 750 000 frontline workers are expected to receive their first shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Over 34 000 healthcare workers have already registered to be vaccinated, with the department expecting thousands more to register for inoculation.
