Ramaphosa: #Eskom steadily improving─── 07:24 Tue, 23 Mar 2021
President Cyril Ramaphosa says Eskom is steadily returning to its technical, operational and financial viability.
In his weekly letter, Ramaphosa acknowledged Eskom’s crisis has contributed to slow economic growth and weaker investor confidence. He says Eskom must be fully functional for South Africa’s economy to recover fully.
The country experienced load-shedding for several days during the past week.
Eskom's CEO, André de Ruyter, warned the country could likely experience load-shedding for the next five years because of old power stations.
Ramaphosa says the government will continue its effort to bring new power generation capacity online.
The government has announced that the new projects will cost around R45 billion.
The power will be produced from a range of sources, including solar, wind, liquified natural gas and battery storage, mainly in the private sector.
It's expected the projects will be productive by August next year.
