ANC KZN distances itself from #shutdown─── 05:52 Mon, 23 Aug 2021
KwaZulu-Natal authorities are on high alert following calls for a national shutdown on Monday.
Posters are doing the rounds and it is not clear what the grievance is and who the organisers are.
In July, something similar happened.
Most of it was not taken seriously initially, yet the situation escalated to mass looting and protests, which cost lives and billions of rands.
Meanwhile, eNCA reported on 29 July 2021, that the KwaZulu-Natal government declared a provincial state of disaster following the devastating unrest.
Infrastructure was severely damaged during the destruction and rampant looting two weeks ago.
The unrest claimed the lives of hundreds of people.
KZN premier Sihle Zikalala says the extent of damage informed their decision.
