A patient grabbed a police officer's firearm and shot the officer.

The suspect also shot two patients, who died on the scene.

The police officer died later.

Dhlomo said, "I was very delighted to find that all our staff members, largely nurses who are females, were in a session of getting some counselling."

"It was those staff members who witnessed that tragic incident yesterday [Saturday], I want to commend how quickly the decision that has been taken by the hospital, together with the MEC, to get our staff members quickly in through the counselling session because what they went through yesterday is actually something one would not want to see happen to your enemy."
