Resignation of David Mabuza was widely expected: Analysts─── 06:20 Sun, 05 Feb 2023
The resignation of Deputy President David Mabuza has long been anticipated, according to political expert Dr. Levy Ndou.
On Saturday, Mabuza announced the news at a funeral for a family in Mpumalanga.
He claims to have given notice of his resignation as South Africa's Deputy President to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Mabuza was succeeded as the Deputy President of the African National Congress by Paul Mashatile during the party's National Conference in December.
Ndou explains, “This was coming. I’m sure that a lot of people are not surprised. Mabuza has not been elected to the highest decision body of the ANC and with the alignment of the ANC one had to expect such to happen. My suspicion is that there could have been a number of discussions that were taking place between the ANC and Mabuza based on the fact that Mabuza has actually saved the President’s political life.”
