Authorities have recovered the body of a woman who was swept away by the floods in the Komani River, the second major deluge to hit the Eastern Cape town this month.
The Chris Hani District Municipality (CHDM) said she was swept away during a heavy storm in the early hours of yesterday morning, the fourth victim so far in the district to perish in the floods.
Municipal spokesperson Bulelwa Ganyaza, said the deceased was from the Rhawutini informal settlement, and her remains were identified by family members.
She adds about 145 people have been moved from their homes to a place of shelter at the Gali Thembani facility.
Eastern Cape Premier, Oscar Mabuyane, visited the flood-devastated area yesterday while the humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers is once more part of the stakeholders providing relief to those affected.
CHDM Executive Mayor, Wongama Gela, has sent his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
