145 people moved to safety in flood-hit Komani─── 05:19 Tue, 21 Feb 2023
MECs Williams, Xolile Nqatha and Siphokazi Mani-Lusithi briefed members of the media on Monday, following recent floods that affected six districts in the Eastern Cape Province, more so in the Chris Hani District.
On Saturday, authorities recovered the body of a woman who was swept away by the floods in the Komani River, the second major deluge to hit the Eastern Cape town of Komani this month.
More than 145 people were also moved to safety from flood-hit informal settlements in Komani, formerly Queenstown.
Cogta MEC Zolile Williams said the flood damage in the province was going to run into billions of rands.
He said a total of ten people had been killed in the flooding and police divers and rescue personnel were continuing the search for four people who are still missing.
