Arrangements are being made to have courts excluded from load-shedding.

This is according to Chief Justice, Raymond Zondo.

He delivered the annual judicial report in Johannesburg on Friday.

Zondo says they are looking into two options, namely:

  • a total exemption from the rolling blackouts, and
  • the use of generators at courts during power cuts.

"There are difficulties in trying to get generators for every court and there attempts to make sure wherever possible generators are bought,” said Zondo.

"I don't think there will be enough in the budget to buy generators for all the courts.

“The issue of disruptions that load-shedding has on the operations of courts is a very serious one and efforts are made to try and sort it out.

"But efforts can only be made within the budgetary constraints that they are," he added.

Meanwhile, on Friday, Eskom said stage 6 load-shedding will continue until further notice.
