“South Africans, their families, and communities are on their own.”

The State of the Nation Address (SONA) has come under fire from opposition parties after it was read by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday (8/2).

The Free Market Foundation said the SONA has become irrelevant and is nothing but an attempt at distracting South Africans from the glaringly obvious truth that our government is in an advanced stage of collapse.

“The State of the Nation Address in this regard was a total joke, for instance in an economy ravaged by unemployment and high violent crime rates, Ramaphosa thought it was appropriate to talk about so-called climate energies,” said Free Market Foundation Head of Policy Martin van Staden.

“The President further recommitted South Africa to the NHI Bill which will enlarge the pockets of the corrupt again and see thousands of doctors that we desperately need leaving our shores.”

One of the points in the President’s address said they have delivered on their commitment to bring substantial new power through private investment onto the grid, which is helping to reduce load shedding.

‘The government cannot solve any of the real problems’

Ramaphosa also insulted the country by saying he is ending load shedding hours before the power utility raised the severity of load shedding to stage four, whilst he repeatedly said load shedding would end by 2023. “It shows that the central government can’t pull off much more than having a lavish event,” said Van Staden.

“It is clear the government cannot solve any of the real problems facing South Africans. So South Africans, their families, and communities are on their own.”
