Marumo Gallants and coach Abdeslam Ouaddou part ways─── MORGAN PIEK 08:46 Mon, 02 Jun 2025

The Bloemfontein-based Premier Soccer League (PSL) club, Marumo Gallants, and their head coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou, have parted ways.
Ouaddou had recently been linked with a move to an overseas club. However, just last week, Gallants dismissed those rumours when approached by OFM Sport.
It had been reported that the club’s former Fulham player had reached a stalemate in the contract negotiations.
Facing the threat of relegation, the former Moroccan international captain and centre-back turned the club’s fortunes around in under three months, with Gallants narrowly missing out on a top-eight finish.
During his time at the helm, Ouaddou led the club to notable victories over both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, and also guided them to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup. In the cup competition, they narrowly missed out on a spot in the final, losing 1-0 to Orlando Pirates in Soweto.
“I would like to announce the end of the adventure with Marumo Gallants,” said Ouaddou.
“It has been a pleasure to work with everyone at the club. I would like to thank, first and foremost, my players, the president, and all stakeholders who contributed, whether directly or indirectly, to the mission of saving the club, not forgetting our incredible supporters.
‘A special place in my heart’
“The people of Bloemfontein will always hold a special place in my heart. I wish Marumo Gallants and my players all the best. I love you guys. I remain open to any proposals involving an ambitious project, and I’m ready for a new challenge.”
Ouaddou, who succeeded Dan Malesela as head coach, made an immediate impact by starting his brief but eventful tenure with a 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates at a sold-out Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.
Seven-match unbeaten run
Under his leadership, Gallants closed their league campaign with a seven-match unbeaten run, finishing tenth on the log, just short of a top-eight spot.
While his stay in Bloemfontein was brief, Ouaddou certainly made an impact and is arguably the best coach to guide a team in the city since Steve Komphela, when he coached Bloemfontein Celtic in 2018 and 2019.
