Mixed fortunes for Bloemfontein PSL teams─── MORGAN PIEK 09:55 Mon, 03 Nov 2025
It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the Bloemfontein-based Premier Soccer League teams, with Siwelele FC claiming a vital win, while Marumo Gallants’ unbeaten run across all competitions came to an end in disappointing style.
On Friday evening, Siwelele managed to clinch just their third win of the season, beating the much-fancied Sekhukhune United 1-0 at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein. The visitors from Polokwane, Sekhukhune, missed an opportunity to move to the top of the log with the defeat.
For Siwelele, the three points lifted them to 12th on the log. More importantly, for the first time in a long while, there is now some breathing space between them and the relegation zone, albeit there is still a long way to go in the league.
There was a lengthy delay to the kick-off in Bloemfontein due to severe thunderstorms in the city, but it was the hosts who weathered not only the storm of the elements but also the challenge of Eric Tinkler’s second-placed chargers.

The deadlock was broken in the 74th minute when 20-year-old striker Siviwe Magidigidi fired a rocket into the back of the net to seal the three points.
Importantly, it was Siwelele’s second win in three games, following their 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants and a 0-0 draw against Kaizer Chiefs. With the victory against Sekhukhune, the tide now seems to be turning.
On Wednesday, Siwelele are on the road again when they travel to Cape Town to face Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium. This Southern Suburbs clash will kick off at 19:30.

Meanwhile, at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Durban, Lamontville Golden Arrows thrashed Marumo 4-0, ending the Bloemfontein team’s unbeaten run.
The scoring opened in the 15th minute when former Gallants striker Junior Dion from Ivory Coast found the back of the net against his former club.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, Gallants were still very much in the game before the wheels completely came off. Another Ivorian, Isaac Cissé, doubled Arrows’ lead in the 75th minute.

With three minutes of regulation time remaining, striker Thokozani Khumalo scored Arrows’ third goal. To add insult to injury, Khumalo completed his brace five minutes later, during the second minute of stoppage time, to seal the three points and lift Arrows to 7th on the log.
On Wednesday, Marumo will face Gavin Hunt's Durban City at Chatsworth Stadium, with kick-off at 19:30.
On Sunday afternoon at 15:00, Arrows and Marumo will once again battle it out at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium, this time in the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
