The big guns continued to fire at Wimbledon on Friday as several of the world’s best players booked their spots in the next round of the Championships following another thrilling day at the All England Club in London.

World number one Jannik Sinner underlined his title credentials with a clinical performance as he powered past American Jenson Brooksby in straight sets. The Italian looked sharp from the outset and controlled proceedings on Court One, securing a 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 victory to move into the fourth round.

After being tested earlier in the tournament, Sinner produced one of his most composed displays so far, using his powerful baseline game and accurate serving to keep Brooksby under constant pressure.

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic was also forced to work for his place in the next round. The Serbian superstar was pushed hard by France’s Arthur Rinderknech but showed his trademark fighting spirit to claim a 7-5, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 victory.

Djokovic looked in control after taking the opening two sets, but Rinderknech responded brilliantly in the third to extend the contest. However, the former world number one found another gear in the fourth-set tie-break to keep his hopes of another Wimbledon crown alive.

There was a major upset in the men’s draw as Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff stunned eighth seed Daniil Medvedev. Struff produced a fearless display of grass-court tennis to beat the Russian 7-6, 7-6, 7-5 and reach the last 16 at Wimbledon for the first time in his career.

Third seed Felix Auger-Aliassime also made a statement with an impressive straight-sets victory over American qualifier Michael Zheng. The Canadian dominated from start to finish, winning 7-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Elsewhere, Hubert Hurkacz came from a set down to beat Tommy Paul, while Roman Safiullin ended the run of Brazilian youngster Joao Fonseca.

In the women’s draw, Coco Gauff survived a stern test against fellow American Claire Liu. The seventh seed looked on course for a routine win before Liu fought back to force a deciding set. Gauff eventually regained control to seal a 6-3, 6-7, 6-2 victory and equal her best run at Wimbledon.

World number one Aryna Sabalenka continued her strong campaign with a commanding win over Jelena Ostapenko, while Japan’s Naomi Osaka delivered one of her best Wimbledon performances to defeat Daria Kasatkina and reach the fourth round at the All England Club for the first time.

The action continues on Saturday with another exciting schedule in London as several title contenders return to the grass.

Defending champion Iga Swiatek will headline the Centre Court action when she faces rising star Alexandra Eala, while an all-American battle between Amanda Anisimova and Madison Keys promises plenty of fireworks.

Former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini faces a tough test against Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in another standout clash.

On Court One, former champion Elena Rybakina will take on Elise Mertens, while Alexander Zverev meets Marcos Giron. Frances Tiafoe will also be looking to continue his campaign when he faces Alexander Bublik.

Other matches to watch include Taylor Fritz against Lorenzo Sonego, Alex de Minaur against Zachary Svajda, and Jasmine Paolini’s meeting with Maria Sakkari.

With the second week fast approaching, the pressure is building at SW19 as the contenders begin to separate themselves from the chasing pack.
