Weird Wide Web - Walk Forrest, walk... Meet world record holder, Nimblewill Nomad | News Article

An 83-year-old from Alabama started walking when he retired more than 25 years ago — and never stopped.

On Sunday, November 7, he broke the world record as the oldest hiker to complete the Appalachian Trail.

Meredith J. Eberhart, who people on the trail also know as "Nimblewill Nomad," said that, even though he has walked tens of thousands of kilometers, the trail was still challenging at his age.

In an article on egoo.com, he started the hike in February at his home in Flagg Mountain, Alabama, adding hundreds of extra kilometers to the usual 3,530 kilometer-long trail from Georgia's Springer Mountain to Katahdin in Maine.

However, some of his past hikes have been much longer, including a walk from the Florida Keys to northern Quebec that was over 7 000 kilometers long. He later hiked from Newfoundland to Florida, an even greater distance — and from Chicago to California on Route 66.
