According to femalefirst, self-confessed chocoholic, Hillion Fern, 75, was gifted with the sweet treat when she was 13 - but couldn’t bear to eat it. The egg, which was decorated with yellow icing in the shape of daffodils, was deemed “too pretty to eat” and remained unwrapped for decades. Hillion, who pays £80 a month to keep it in storage, can still recall the day she was given the egg back in 1960.

She told The Mirror: “I still remember the day I was given it, there was something special about the egg, I wanted to keep it. "I thought to myself, 'I'll keep it until Whitsun' but I then never ate it, so then I thought, 'Oh, I will keep it until Christmas' and then Christmas came and went.

"It became a bit of a challenge after that to see how long I could hold out.

"I am quite impressed with my willpower because I have always loved chocolate.

"There was something special about the egg I wanted to keep and after a while it became too precious to eat.”

Hillion is “confident” that the egg is a “world-beater” and said she’s heard of old Easter eggs before but never ones that were unwrapped.

She added it might seem silly to pay for the egg to be stored, but she wanted to make sure it stayed in perfect condition.
