Weird Wide Web - Quit while you are ahead | News Article

A man from Chile, who was accidentally paid 286 times his salary, resigned and disappeared.

Times are tough and we've all had to tighten our financial belts a bit more than usual. So it only makes sense that when we get some extra money, we lose our minds in happiness.  But imagine getting your salary at the end of the month and it is 286 times more than you should get, what do you do?

Well, this happened to a man in Chile who took the money and disappeared.

According to ladbible, the man legged it after he was accidentally paid 286 times his normal salary.

The banking bungle occurred in May, with the man promising his boss that he would return what was overpaid to him. But instead, he quit his job and vanished.

Honestly though, it shouldn't be a surprise that he ran, most people would probably do the same thing. The company accidentally paid around 165,398,851 Chilean pesos instead of his usually salary of 500,000 pesos. In case you were wondering, the man got R2 893 035 instead of his normal amount of R8 822,20.  Can you say "Scrooge McDuck"?

According to Chilean financial news website Diario Financiero, the man worked at Consorcio Industrial de Alimentos (Cial), a company that is one of the largest producers of cold cut meats in Chile.  When human resources noticed the major banking error, Cial reached out to their employee to discuss the mistaken payment.

Diario Financiero reports that the man agreed to go to his bank the next morning to sort out the repayment, but did not show up to work. His employers were unable to contact him, despite trying multiple attempts to call, text, and WhatsApp the man.
