#OFMElectionWatch: Calls for IEC boss to recuse himself | News Article

The Forum 4 Service Delivery (F4SD) is calling for the axing of the Independent Electoral Commission's (IEC) boss, Glen Mashinini, after he accompanied president Cyril Ramaphosa to cast his vote in Soweto on Wednesday.

According to the present of the F4SD, Mbahare J Kekana, this is misconduct and Mashinini should account by recusing himself as the boss of the commission.

He tells OFM News that they are flabbergasted by the action of the IEC 's Chairperson and further accused him of being a African National Congress (ANC) member.

He adds that the IEC is supposed to be impartial, independent and should treat all the parties equally. Kekana says Mashinini's actions are in all aspects irrational, unfair and equates to misconduct.

Kekana says the F4SD will challenge what it calls a misconduct and further called upon the election observers to investigate and call Mashinini and the IEC to order and declare these elections not free and fair.

"The F4SD wants Glen Mashinini to recuse himself from presiding these elections," Kekana concludes.

OFM News previously reported that in just a few hours after the voting process commenced on Wednesday morning in the North West political parties turned the heat on the IEC after serious allegations of misconduct were reported to them.

The Economic Freedom Fighters' (EFF) and the Freedom Front Plus (FF+) say they have lodged a complaint with the IEC in the province following a few but serious issues.

Jerry Matebesi from the EFF added issues of scanners and zip machines not being available in ward 9 in Bojanala.

These allegations were echoed by the leader of the FF+ in the province, Hannes Schutte, who said it baffled them that such issues are still central with the IEC.
