Junior Bonase

Junior Bonase, the Bloemfontein-based journalist who passed away recently, was described in a memorial service held at Floreat Hall this afternoon as a humble, dedicated and hard-working man.

The service was attended by various media houses, government officials and the community at large.

Sechaba Maphalla, Head of Communications at the Premier's office, says the media and communications fraternity has lost a soldier who was willing to go beyond the call of duty.

He says during their interactions he saw a strong person who loved telling stories and making a difference in his society.

Mondli Mvambi, the Department of Health spokesperson, says he still can't believe that Bonase is no more.

He urged the family to accept his death and uphold his legacy.

Bonase (41) mysteriously died last week on his way to Parys where he was apparently working on a story.

He was found dead by a passerby on the N1 near Kroonstad. He had a bruised face.

According to the police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, the second postmortem was conducted after they found the first one to be inconclusive.

She said they are expecting to receive the postmortem results at the very latest on Friday.

Mbambo added that investigation is still continuing.

Bonase will be buried on Saturday in his home town of Springfontein.

The funeral is scheduled to start at 08:00 and will head to the cemetery at midday.
