NW Education grieving after death of former MEC─── 11:30 Thu, 10 Jun 2021

The North West Department of Education is saddened by the passing of the former MEC of Education, Oabetswe Johannes Tselapedi.
This is according to the MEC of Education, Mmphefo Matsemela, after she learned about Pastor Tselapedi’s untimely death. He died on Sunday following a short illness, the ANC in the North West said in a statement.
“On behalf of the department, I would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to the entire Tselapedi family. Who can forget when our province was trailing from behind, between position 7 and 8, in the matric results - year after year? The former MEC's efforts, together with those of his team, helped to enhance the province's performance to the improvement of the results. The province's outcomes made North West to what is regarded as [one of the] top-performing provinces. May his soul rest in eternal peace," said Matsemela.
Matsemela further describes the deceased as an anointed Pastor who was affectionately called “Moruti” by those who closely knew him. The late Tselapedi was MEC of Education from 2004 until 2010. At the time of his death, he was serving as Municipal Public Accounts Committee Chairperson at the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality in North West.
