Representatives of the Mangaung Concerned Community (MCC) have warranted the continuation of the Mangaung Shutdown.

This comes after they released a media statement on Tuesday, in which they give an update on developments and invite the media to their press conference which will be held on Saturday 26 June 2021. According to one of the MCC representatives, the conference is expected to give details of how the mass action will unfold.

Zweni says the MCC team met with a team of government negotiators, led by Free State Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC, Thembeni Nxangisa. He says that they conveyed their disappointment with how the government continued with their refusal to deal with issues of Mangaung residents, which included the ultimatum to dissolve the Mangaung Municipality. Zweni further stated that the government showed that it does not care about the Mangaung residents’ issues.

OFM News had previously reported on the Mangaung Shutdown, which led to the devastating death of a 15-year-old Liam Jevano Siegel from Heidedal and the arrests of many protesters. After three days of protests, it was reported that the MCC had committed to negotiate with the Mangaung Municipality and various stakeholders.
