Two Northern Cape accounting officers who were previously suspended from their positions by the Kimberley-based Sol Plaatje Local Municipality are back at work.
This has been confirmed by the municipal spokesperson, Sello Matsie.
Matsie tells OFM News that the municipality’s chief financial officer (CFO), Lydia Mahloko, and municipal manager (MM), Goolam Akharwaray, have been reinstated. This after the two recently won their court case in the Northern Cape High Court against the municipality, that previously suspended them. Their suspension was apparently with the intention to investigate them following claims of wasteful expenditure, amongst others, during the tenure of former mayor Mangaliso Matika in 2018.
OFM News previously reported that the Office of the Mayor, Solomon Mabilo, released a statement that, during a special council meeting on 18 August 2021, the Council resolved that the Executive Mayor should notify the two officials to report for duty in their respective positions on Monday 23 August 2021.
