Memorable Davis Cup tie awaits Rik De Voest─── 13:31 Thu, 20 Mar 2014
South African tennis star, Rik De Voest says that “every time you represent your country is special, but this Tie will be extra special.”
De Voest was named by Davis Cup Captain, John-Laffnie De Jager in his squad for the all-important Euro Africa Group 2 Tie against Lithuania from the 4-6 April.
The upcoming Tie will be a special occasion for 33 year old De Voest. “This Tie against Lithuania will be additionally unique and memorable for me as it will be my 20th official Tie for South Africa.”
Reaching a milestone of playing 20 ties for South Africa, De Voest will receive a prestigious Davis Cup commitment award from the International Tennis Federation.
De Voest made his Davis Cup debut in 2002 at the Groenkloof Stadium in Pretoria vs Hungary. In the 19 Ties De Voest has played, he has played 44 rubbers of which he has won 26.
Presently ranked 186 in singles and 368 in doubles, De Voest reached a career high singles ranking of 110 (21/8/2006) and doubles ranking high of 39 (6/4/2009).
De Voest with Fisher reached the 2009 ATP SA Open doubles final at Montecasino. On the Challenger circuit, De Voest has won 37 doubles titles which stand as a record number of titles won by a player. De Voest has earned over $1 350 000.00 prize money since turning professional in 1999.
Earlier this month, De Voest’s Canadian wife Carolyn gave birth to their first born; a baby boy named Morgan in Vancouver, Canada.
“It is really hard for me to leave my newborn son and normally I would not, however, this Tie against Lithuania has significant importance for me on both a personal and professional level.”
