Kimberley - Correctional services social worker Catharina Klaaste is currently under cross examination by State Advocate Hannes Cloete during sentencing proceedings in the Griekwastad triple murder case.
Klaaste prepared a pre-sentencing report for the defense and discussed the pros and cons of correctional supervision versus admitting the child to a youth care centre operated by the department of social development, or sending him to prison.
A 17-year-old boy was found guilty on 27 March of three counts of murder, one of rape and one of defeating the ends of justice.
Deon, Christel and Marthella Steenkamp were shot and killed at their farm Naauwhoek in April 2012 and 14-year-old Marthella was also raped.
