NWU: Students still advised to leave Mafikeng Campus | News Article

Mahikeng - The management of the Mafikeng Campus of the North West University (NWU) today continued discussions with the Campus Student Representative Council (ISRC) regarding the decision to keep the campus closed until November 15.

University spokesperson Louis Jacobs in a statement said students are still encouraged to leave the campus. Those students who remain on campus will do so at their own risk.

He went on to confirm students on the Mafikeng Campus will only start with their examinations on November 16 and will continue until December 8.

The second opportunity will be written from 11 to 22 January. Exams on the Potchefstroom and the Vaal Triangle Campuses will commence as planned on November 2.

Meanwhile, ISRC President, Benz Mabengwane, told OFM News that it was decided no disciplinary steps will be taken against students that have taken part in the recent #FeesMustFall protests, which saw extensive damage done to the campus's infrastructure. It was also decided that management will engage with student leaders in February next year to provide feedback on progress made with other demands made by students.

For now, Mabengwane says clean-up action at the campus will take place tomorrow.
