Sasolburg - Free State police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of an 87-year-old man in Sasolburg.
Paul Johannes Swart, who was well-known for giving food to the homeless, was murdered on the weekend of February 27th. Police spokesperson, Livhuhani Hani, said Swart's son became worried when his father failed to contact him over the weekend. He went to his father’s house to check on him and found his body.
Hani said Swart was beaten to death. The suspects made off with items such as a cellphone and video player.
Hani says a 34-year-old man was arrested after police recovered some of the stolen items. They are expecting to make more arrests.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
