Bloemfontein - The South African cotton industry body, Cotton SA, says production for the current season is expected to be nearly half that of last year.
The 6th estimate for the 2015/16 production year indicates a total crop of just under 48 000 lint bales, down 49% from the previous season.
The online report states this estimate is more or less unchanged from the previous estimate.
Taking a look at anticipated prices, Cotton SA says the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) projected average for the 2015/16 season, which ends on July 31, is virtually unchanged from last year.
It states the Cotlook A Index for the current season is at 70 US c/pound (or about R20 per kilogram), down from 71c last year.
