#Drought - Permanent relief fund aimed at assisting all farmers─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 05:17 Thu, 07 Feb 2019
The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF), Senzeni Zokwana, recently engaged with farmers in an effort to receive an update about the extent of the drought affecting some provinces in South Africa.
He also received a report on how the sector is being affected. DAFF spokesperson, Khaye Nkwanyana, says Zokwana is engaging with the National Treasury at this stage about funding. As a result, it was decided to look into a permanent relief fund that can serve as an emergency fund which can be available to provide assistance to farmers.
He says small scale farmers as well as commercial farmers will benefit from the relief interventions, especially commercial farmers who deliver to domestic and foreign markets.
