A farmer in Vrede, Makhosino Dhlamini, appeared before the commission this week. He is a cattle farmer who was identified as one of the 80 people who were to take a 52% stake in the project. Speaking through a translator, Dhlamini told the commission after the former MEC of Agriculture om the province, Mosebenzi Zwane, told them about the project and how they would benefit, they became suspicious when they saw members of the Gupta family at the farm.

He says he raised concerns about the project at an Imbizo attended by the former Minister of Agriculture, Senzeni Zokwana, and testified that these concerns were never addressed.
