The land question is a topical issue in South Africa.

Therefor a space of engagement must be created and all South Africans must be honest with one another and not deny the wrongdoings of the past, especially regarding land as an asset. The aim should be towards rebuilding an inclusive community. This was the message from the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Thoko Didiza, during the Charlotte Maxeke Public Lecture held at the University of the Free State (UFS) in Bloemfontein on Tuesday. The lecture was aimed at socio economic discourses on among others leadership, and the agricultural industry, of which the life of Maxeke, a public intellectual and woman advocate for democracy, is a true example

Didiza said as a previous South African minister of land affairs she knew the pain and the cries of African people when it relates to land, but she doesn’t hear cries and concerns of white people. It is therefore important that all South Africans understand each other’s pain in order to navigate the future especially with regards to the land issue.
