No reports of African swine fever in the FS after first outbreak─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 09:05 Mon, 09 Sep 2019
A total of 17 outbreaks of African swine fever, ASF, outside the controlled area in North West, the Free Sate, Mpumalanga and Gauteng, have been reported since April this year.
The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development's, Reggie Ngcobo, says although the current outbreak of ASF in pigs in the country does not pose a threat to human health and the consumption of pork and its products, producers still need to be vigilant and report pig deaths to their nearest State Veterinary office. Meanwhile, the director of veterinary services at the Free State department, Kristan Mojapelo, says since pigs were culled by the department in the Heilbron area, no reports of more positive reactions were reported in the province.
