Responsible antibiotic use in SA a priority, says expert─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 07:59 Wed, 25 Sep 2019
Responsible antibiotic use in treating sick cattle is a priority in South Africa.
Dr. Shaun Morris, a feedlot consultant at the Beefmaster Group, which is a leading specialist producer of quality beef products in South Africa, says this is because of the problem of antibiotic resistance causing a threat the farmer’s herds in the country. According to him there are certain alternative treatments against animal diseases.
These include correct feeding and nutrition, as well as efficient vaccination programmes in collaboration with veterinarians. He is of the opinion that good vaccines are available to treat sick animals.
