#Drought: Graaff Reinet farmers desperate to feed dying animals─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 06:28 Wed, 16 Oct 2019
The largest disaster relief organisation of African origin, Gift of the Givers (GOTG), continues to provide relief in the form of fodder for farm animals, including sheep, cattle and goats, in drought-ridden areas across the country.
Humanitarian aid is also provided to communities that are in dire need of basic essentials like food, water, and sanitary supplies. In the GOTG’s latest intervention, eight truckloads of fodder were delivered in Graaff Reinet in the Eastern Cape. Imtiaz Sooliman Founder and Chairperson of GOTG, says the request for fodder amongst emerging and commercial farmers is overwhelming.
There is desperation in their eyes and deep compassion to feed their hungry and dying animals. He says Dr Gideon Groenewald, a hydrologist, geologist and palaeontologist for GOTG, was also present to witness the drilling of another borehole in Graaff Reinet. This is the eighth borehole that have been drilled in town.
