Heatwave conditions expected in some Central SA areas─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 08:14 Thu, 24 Oct 2019
Lower temperatures in some parts of the Free State and Northern Cape have been welcomed by many, including farmers.
Cooler temperatures have been experienced in the central parts of the Free State and most parts of the Northern Cape. A forecaster at the Bloemfontein Weather Office, Michael Nethavhani, says this can be attributed to a frontal system moving along coastal areas in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. He says temperatures are, however, expected to increase with persistently high temperatures which are expected in the central area by Friday. He says heatwave conditions can occur, especially in the eastern half of North West, Gauteng, and the extreme northeastern parts of the Free State.
He says low temperatures in the Northern Cape, which has also been affected by a frontal system along the Western Cape which actually changed the wind direction coming from the southwest, are expected to stay low during the next seven days. Nethavhani says there is a slight chance of scattered thunderstorms by next Thursday in North West and in most areas of the Free State. No rain is expected during this time in the Northern Cape.
