Naidoo said national police commissioner, Khehla John Sithole, at the time welcomed the arrest of three suspects following there alleged involvement in a the robbery, kidnapping and murder of the Brand family members  on a small holding in Magogong just outside Hartswater. It is believed that a group of people attacked the 83-year-old Danie, his 79-year-old wife, Breggie, and their 50-year-old daughter, Elzabie. The missing three were reported to police on Monday after a concerned family member from Johannesburg could not get hold of the three family members.

He said a 72-hour activation plan was activated. This included the deployment of crime intelligence members,  forensic experts, detective services and other supporting units, which were mobilised. A massive search was launched which lead to one of the stolen cars that was found abandoned at the Majaneng Villiage near Taung in North West on Monday night.

Naidoo said with the search continuing in the Northern Cape the Brand family member's second alleged stolen car was spotted in the area of Pudimoe. The car was driven by a woman and there were two male occupants. The three suspects were arrested. Elzabie's body was found in the Takaneng Village in a veld. He said she was murdered, but the cause of her death still needs to be determined. At that stage the search for her parents and a possible fourth suspect continued. According to Naidoo, it is suspected the motive for the attack is robbery.
