Police in the Northern Cape are deeply worried about false information distributed on social media platforms and among communities about the state of the bodies of the Brand family members that were murdered last week.
Danie Brand, his wife Breggie, and their daughter, Elzabie, were attacked in their house on a smallholding last Sunday. They were kidnapped in their own two cars. Elzabie's body was found first in veld near Taung in North West. Her parents bodies were found not far from her body in rough terrain. He says rumours are being spread that the eyes of the deceased were removed, which is not true according to the post-mortem. Ramatseba appeals to people to refrain from such a tendency, because it traumatises families involved and communities.
He says the post-mortem results has shown the cause of death was stab wounds to the victims.
The suspects, Shepho Visagie, Donald Seoleseng, Tshepaone Melato, Kgomotso Mpulwana en Realeboga Manyedi briefly appeared in the Hartswater Magistrate's Court last Thursday on charges of murder, kidnapping and robbery. Their bail application was postponed until August 13. They remain in custody. Ramatseba says if the accused attempt to be released from bail, the state will oppose it.
