In our Friday insert, only on OFM News' Agri Hour, Christal-Lize Muller speaks to the editor of Farmer’s Weekly, Denine Erasmus, about the latest news in the agricultural industry covered in the magazine.

She highlights the September 4 issue of Farmer's Weekly and in the news section the magazine takes a look at how renewed protest action is drawing more attention to rural crime. This is in response to the protest action in Hartswater recently, after terrible crimes were committed there. Organised agricultural structures are expecting more of this type of action will be seen in future as the pressure on rural communities mount with more property-related crimes taking place.

In another news story, the magazine focuses on the ban on the sale of alcohol that has been lifted. The article focuses on what the impact was of the two periods, during which South Africans were not able to sell or buy wine because of the Covid-19-pandemic and the lockdown regulations.

She says there is also a forecast of an increase in cotton production, despite a slump in demand. This is good news for cotton farmers.

There is also a story about a couple of researchers in Botswana who have in a four-year study painted eyes on the back of cattle to establish if it will keep predators away.  The study has now been released. Interesting results.

In another story, the latest transformation report from the South African forestry sector is discussed.
