He says even though the rain-producing weather system is weakening and exiting the country on Monday, isolating thundershowers can still be expected during the afternoon. Nethavani says areas that will be affected are the northern- and eastern parts of the Free State, as well as most of the northern parts of the North West – excluding the western parts of the province, which includes Vryburg.
Another rain-producing weather system is expected to make landfall in the western coastal areas of the drought-stricken Northern Cape on Tuesday. Nethavani says most parts of the province is expected to receive rain, with more than 10mm of rain expected in Kimberley.
He says the system will further progress inland by Wednesday, which will result in widespread scattered thundershowers. Nethavani adds 60% to 80% rainfall is expected across the Free State, North West and the eastern parts of the Northern Cape. He says temperatures are also expected to drop to between 15 - 22 degrees during the day.
On Thursday, the system will be progressing further east, “and by then most rain is expected to fall in the southern- and eastern Free State, eastern parts of North West, Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal,” says Nethavani.
Furthermore, the rainy weather systems are expected to weaken and exit the country by Friday.
