The newest edition of Farmer’s Weekly sheds light on what is currently happening in the barley industry. This, as barley farmers are concerned that the quality of the crop will not be sufficient for the main buyer, which is the South African Breweries (SAB). Erasmus adds that this concern is specifically from farmers in the Southern Cape region who received late rainfall which affected the quality of their barley.
Another article readers can look forward to, is a follow-up story involving dodgy land deals in Mpumalanga. Erasmus says “so their chickens are coming back home to roost for some of the officials that were involved in this scandal”.
Furthermore, this issue also reflects on a recent webinar that highlighted challenges that rural communities face in terms of policing and keeping their properties safe. The webinar focused on farm security in South Africa.
Lastly, an update of the country’s Expropriation Bill that was recently presented in Parliament.
