The Magic of Opera is an educational project of the Odeion School of Music whereby their vocal students have the opportunity to perform with an orchestra and students playing orchestral instruments get to perform with professional players.
The Magic of Opera is a production of the Odeion School of Music. It is a semi-staged production which consists of excerpts from the most beautiful and well-known operas. Head of singing at the OSM, Albertus Engelbrecht, joins Mid-Morning Magic’s Yolanda Maartens to highlight some of the exciting aspects of this production.
The Magic of Opera is being hosted at the Odeion on 12 November, 15:00 and entry is free. There will be opera choruses, duets and arias from operas such as Verdi’s II Trovatore and Nabucco, Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Donizetti’s E’elisier d’amore and Mozart’s Magic Flute. There are many highlights in the programme and the audience can expect a variety of hits such as the aria of the Queen of the Night, the Flower Duet and the famous tenor aria, Dein ist mein ganzes Herz.
All the singers are vocal students from the Odeion School of Music and will be accompanied by an orchestra consisting of students from OSM and professional players. The programme will be hosted by a narrator who will give some background to the various musical items.
The programme is an hour long and is funded by the Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra, whose support is truly appreciated.
