“The Business School aims to shape executive minds in Africa,” says Professor Leenta Grobler from the North-West University (NWU).

Professor Leenta Grobler is the MBA Programme Manager and Associate Professor in Digitalisation and Digital Economies at the NWU Business School. The business school is a postgraduate school that specialises in management education. It offers several formal programmes, namely the flagship MBA (Master of Business Administration) programme, a postgraduate diploma in management and a PhD qualification.

Informal programmes include executive education, which is a short learning programme specifically aimed at business people to shape their ideas. This programme also includes training in various fields, such as specialised forensic practices.

“We also have a number of programmes to help managers develop themselves as they grow through the ranks,” says Professor Grobler.

The MBA is the most well-known programme, but the business school also offers a postgraduate diploma in management. The postgraduate diploma in management is a one-year programme that can be studied either full-time or part-time through contact and distance learning.

The postgraduate diploma in management qualification creates a foundation for an MBA for those who don’t qualify. If you want to study towards an MBA but are too young, lack experience in business, or do not have an NQF level 8 qualification, this is the qualification for you.

Professor Grobler’s area of specialisation in the business school is digitalisation and digital economies focusing on sectors such as agriculture and mining.

"The Business School is located in the North West, which explains why agriculture and mining are the focus areas. However, that does not mean that other sectors are not welcome,” says Professor Grobler.

Professor Grobler’s area of study focuses on the value that can be added through digitising data. As well as digitalising processes to get additional information that can be used to inform the decision-making process.

Peer learning is the main reason she would recommend an MBA. “I’ve seen so many aha moments since I started teaching the MBA programme,” Grobler says. “The students are all experts in their field, and they learn so much from one another from various disciplines.”
