PG Glass, Glasfit in hot water─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 15:49 Fri, 20 Feb 2026
PG Glass and Glasfit are accused of fixing the price of automotive glass products since 2004.
The Competition Commission of South Africa announced on Thursday that it has referred a complaint against the two iconic companies to the Competition Tribunal for prosecution. The businesses are suppliers of laminated and toughened automotive glass in the country and compete in the market for the distribution and fitment of automotive glass.
According to the Competition Commission’s Siyabulela Makunga, they allegedly colluded in a cartel-like manner to increase the price of automotive glass supplied to customers by the same percentage point each year.

If found guilty by the Tribunal, PG Glass and Glasfit could be penalised 10% of the businesses’ annual turnover, respectively.
This development comes almost a week after the Commission raided the premises of four scrap metal purchasing companies following accusations of price fixing.
A third party initially levelled the complaint against Scaw South Africa, Cape Gate, Shaurya Steel trading as Force Steels and Unica Iron and Steel back in 2023. The companies located in Germiston, Nigel, Vanderbijlpark, and Hammanskraal reportedly increased the purchase price of shredded or processed scrap metal at more or less the same time, alerting authorities.

Cape Gate, which operates in Vanderbijlpark, vehemently denies any wrongdoing, adding that they have always cooperated with the Commission, supplying the requisite documents and information.
The company declined an interview on the OFM Business Hour, revealing via a statement that they have “launched both review and appeal proceedings against the Tribunal’s decision, which are currently sub judice and will be heard in the Competition Appeal Court during the first quarter of 2026”.
